Welcome to our village and our holiday apartment - 'Le Petit Coeur'. Bauduen is a beautiful village in the department of Var, which forms part of Provence in the South of France. It is just over one hour inland from the coast at St. Tropez. It is stunningly beautiful. The village is surrounded on three sides by Lake Sainte Croix (about the size of Windermere). The weather is usually fantastic: hot but with plenty of air - the village is quite high and the wind benefits wind-surfing and yachting; most watersports are available but not those involving motors. The lake is gorgeous for swimming (it is a source of drinking water). Bathing is supervised on the village's main beach during summer - but there are miles of lakeside so that you can always find a secluded bay to bathe. Around us there are beautiful Provençal villages and we are surrounded by magnificent scenery. It is an ideal choice for those seeking a quiet, relaxing romantic break and it can also provide a fantastic base for those who want a more active holiday. Here are some things which people who have stayed in Le Petit Coeur have kindly said... Here are a few of the things, in no particular order, that we liked about your apartment. The apartment is much more spacious that it looks in the photos on the website, and we loved the beautiful, simple decoration and the generous, thoughtful furnishing and equipment: great stereo, lovely and charming kitchen, beautiful old terracotta floor tiles, the bedroom shelves full of good books We found the apartment cool even in hot weather, the thick old walls and shutters very effective. We liked the eccentric windows and the worn stone steps and dark, cool hallway. We found the village beautiful, full of lovely, characterful stone buildings, the eaves full of nesting housemartins, swifts and swallows. The bakery is very good we particularly rated the baguette de pays and the pains au chocolat, and it's great that it is just a minute away from the flat. The lake is lovely at all times of day, astonishingly blue, and often glassily smooth; beautiful at sunset, too. Although it's clear you can eat well in the village, at pizzeria or the Café du Midi, we enjoyed cooking in the flat. There are markets every day of the week locally, but Bauduen's own Sunday fruit and veg market was good, with wonderful fresh goats' cheeses and olives too (and we really loved your allotment veg and herbs, and the delicious eggs totally unexpected!). There's nothing better than choosing great veg from a market, then taking it back to the flat to eat we were able to make quite adventurous dishes in your kitchen, which is very well appointed. Small things make a big difference to a stay: we loved the coloured bowls, the teapot and teacups, and lots of little jugs in which to put wayside-picked herbs. The crate of wine demonstrates the generous, thoughtful philosophy behind the flat we've stayed places where one feels like a hostile intruder, but here we felt welcomed. Bauduen is a good place for people who like wildlife, especially birds. The woods are full of blackcaps, and Sardinian and other warblers, and we had great sightings of the short-toed eagles (circaètes Jean-Le-Blanc) and black kites (milans noirs) that nest near the lake. We enjoyed walking, especially the long circular route through woods and by the lake. It was lovely to swim in such a quiet place, with only the calls of the great crested grebes travelling over the water. We also enjoyed exploring the area further afield a little. Riez is fascinating with its beautiful crumbling buildings. The lovely old hilltop village of Ampus is well worth a visit the old aqueduct and laverie system used to provide all its power. (The bakery there advertises organic bread made with natural leaven, but was shut when we visited.) Tourtour's central, plane-shaded square is a lovely place to have a cooling citron pressé. Aix-en-Provence is under two hours away, with its beautiful buildings, squares, markets and museums. But, once we were in Bauduen, we were happy to stay and enjoy being there. We would certainly love to come back and stay another time. We've already recommended the flat to friends and family, and will continue to do so. (Angus and Susan, St.Andrews, July 2011) We had a delightful long weekend in Bauduen last July followed by a week long stay in September. Bauduen and the surrounding area really are as beautiful as the photographs show. The village and apartment are full of character and history and as the apartment is in the centre of the village, it is just a short stroll to all the amenities and lakeside. The apartment was most comfortable with everthing that we required. We thoroughly recommend a holiday here and hope to return in the future. (Ian and Rachel, Stockport) Thank you for an excellent holiday, we've had a lovely 2 weeks and very much enjoyed staying in the apartment - a real home from home, providing everything we needed .... and more besides. (Judith and Darren, Newcastle) We greatly enjoyed the week spent at your quaint and authentic Bauduen apartment. As this was my first visit to Europe, the languid afternoons exploring Bauduen and the surrounding region will be an affectionately remembered introduction to rural Provence. Thank you very much for your thoughtful accommodation and hospitality. (Kerry, California) A belated note of thanks for letting us stay in you wonderful aparment and being such good hosts. We returned last Wednesday to windy and wet weather in Kent which has continued. How we wish we were still there. I met up with my friend Caroline today and she is very excited about coming to Bauduen and I know they will thoroughly enjoy themselves. Once again, many thanks and we look forward to visiting again. Soon! (James Family, Kent) Just briefly to say how much we enjoyed our holiday in your apartment. ... ... Look forward to speaking with you again if our holiday plans can include another visit to Bauduen. (Caroline, Guy and Family, Kent) We really enjoyed our stay in your apartment. It was charming with just the right balance of traditional features but sympathetically modernised. Comfy beds too! The little watercolours I painted are on my wall as a happy reminder.
